What you get

One Excel workbook (.xlsx) with a sheet for every table in the database. Each sheet has a bold header row followed by the data.

  • Dates are real Excel dates. Date-only values are formatted as yyyy-mm-dd.
  • Currency and numeric values are stored as numbers, so you can add them up and chart them.
  • Only tables are exported. Forms, reports, queries and macros are not.
  • To export a single table, choose Export, then Table as Excel.

Excel's limits to know

Excel holds at most 1,048,575 data rows on a sheet, sheet names stop at 31 characters, and a cell holds up to 32,767 characters. The export stops for the first and adjusts for the other two.

  • Rows. A table with more than 1,048,575 data rows cannot go into a sheet. The export tells you, and you can export that table as CSV instead.
  • Sheet names. The characters [ ] : * ? / \ are removed and the name is cut to 31 characters. If two tables end up with the same name, the second becomes "Name (2)". Excel reserves the name "History", so a table with that name is renamed.
  • Long text. Text over 32,767 characters is cut short in the workbook. A CSV export keeps the full value.

Open the workbook in Excel, LibreOffice, Numbers or Google Sheets

Double-click the .xlsx file to open it in Excel, LibreOffice or Numbers. For Google Sheets, upload it to Google Drive or use File, then Import.

The workbook is a standard .xlsx file, so each of these reads it the same way. Every table is on its own tab along the bottom of the window.

How this compares with Access's own export

Access exports one table or query at a time and runs only on Windows. This page needs only a browser and puts every table in one workbook.

In Access, the External Data tab, then Export to Excel, creates one file for the table or query you chose, and it can export queries as well as tables. This page exports tables only. If you need a query's results, you need Access itself. If you only need the tables, on a Mac or a computer without Access, this is quicker.

Is it safe?

Yes. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, and your file is never uploaded. The site has no server that could receive it.

To check, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and convert a file. You will not see it being sent anywhere. The result is limited by your device's memory, so very large databases may be slow or fail. Encrypted .accdb files need the password. The privacy page has more detail. Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an .accdb file to Excel?

Choose your file in the viewer above and click Download as Excel. Your browser saves one .xlsx workbook with a sheet for every table.

Can I export just one table?

Yes. Select the table, open Export and choose Table as Excel. The button above always exports all tables.

What happens to tables with more than 1,048,575 rows?

Excel cannot hold them, so the export stops and tells you the table is too big. Export that table as CSV instead, which has no row limit.

Are dates real Excel dates?

Yes. Dates are stored as real Excel dates, and date-only values are formatted as yyyy-mm-dd, so you can sort and filter them. Numbers and currency values are stored as numbers.

Does it need Microsoft Access or Windows?

No. It runs in any modern browser, including on a Mac or a Chromebook, and does not need Access installed.

Does it export forms, reports or queries?

No. Only tables are exported. Forms, reports, queries and macros are not read.
